A hotel's website is the first impression most international guests receive, and copy that reads as though a stranger wrote it sends them elsewhere to book.

Holiday Inn runs more than 1,300 hotels and welcomes over 100 million guests a year, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group. It earned the name "The World's Innkeeper" by keeping the same friendly manner it started with, back when it was a chain of motels named after a Fred Astaire film. When it needed its website and marketing translated for the travel industry, it came to Brightlines.

The Challenge

Hospitality lives or dies on tone. Long before a guest reaches the front desk, they read the website, the offers and the booking emails, and every word has to make them feel expected, in their own language. Translate that content too literally and the warmth drains out: the copy turns correct but cold, the linguistic equivalent of a receptionist who never looks up from the screen. Holiday Inn markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia, to guests and to the many nationalities who run its hotels. Its communications had to carry precise information and the brand's welcome at the same time, in every market.

Our Approach and What We Deliver

As a full-service agency, we handle both the translation and the production, so Holiday Inn's website and campaigns arrive finished rather than half-built. Our translators know the local culture as well as the language, because a greeting that works in one country falls flat in another. They localise where a direct translation would sound foreign, keeping the tone friendly and the information exact across the EMEAR region.

Our work for Holiday Inn covers:

  • Website translation for the travel and hospitality sector
  • Marketing and corporate communications across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia
  • Localisation and multilingual production

The Outcome

Holiday Inn's website and marketing continue to reach a multilingual audience with their character intact, the brand voice recognisable whichever language a guest reads it in. The account works because the tone survives the crossing, which is the whole point of translating a hospitality brand at all.

Our work for Holiday Inn has produced:

  • A translated website and brand communications that keep their warmth across EMEAR
  • A continuing partnership spanning translation and production

How We Can Help

Does your hotel take bookings from abroad? Your website and your campaigns are what a guest meets first, so they have to read like the real thing in every language, not like a translation. Our translators handle hotel website translation and marketing alike, and we manage the production in-house, so the finished piece comes back ready to use. Get a price for your project.
