Multilingual Technical Translation for Unigloves

Brightlines is Unigloves’ translation partner, and has been since 2019. We translate their product and safety copy across more than 26 languages, handling everything from short instructions printed on packaging to full product catalogues and regulatory text. The Challenge

Unigloves is a hand-protection manufacturer supplying personal protective equipment across Europe and beyond. Their documentation has to do several jobs at once. It has to tell users how to use the product safely, describe technical specifications precisely, and carry the regulatory statements that allow the product to be sold at all. None of that leaves room for approximation.

The copy we translate for Unigloves spans many different types, each with its own demands. It ranges from short safety-critical copy for product packaging, where a mistranslation could lead to misuse, to detailed catalogues dense with product names, materials, sizing, order codes and specifications, and formal regulatory copy carrying conformity declarations, notified body information and chemical-resistance statements. Each type calls for a different balance of clarity, technical precision and regulatory exactness.

Two challenges recur across this work. The first is breadth of language coverage. A given piece of copy might be needed in only a handful of markets or in dozens. We produce copy for Unigloves in more than 26 languages overall, from German, French and Spanish to Latvian, Macedonian, Serbian and Ukrainian, with each piece localised into the markets it is meant for. The second is technical and regulatory precision. PPE copy references the EU PPE Regulation 2016/425, CE marking, and harmonised standards such as EN 374 and the associated EN and ISO test methods, AQL values and protection levels. Standard codes such as EN 374 and the regulation number stay as they are, while the surrounding terms, the word for "regulation," for "CE marking," for "notified body," take their officially recognised form in each language. None of this can be paraphrased, loosely translated or made consistent by guesswork, and it has to be rendered correctly and consistently every time, in every language it appears in.

Where standards, regulatory phrasing and established terminology are involved, we use the recognised in-language form rather than a literal rendering, so the copy matches what regulators and users in each market already expect.

Terminology consistency is central. Product names, material descriptions, standard references and recurring specification language have to stay uniform within each piece of content and across the languages it is produced in. Safety-critical copy is translated with particular care, because the reader relies on it to use protective equipment correctly. Regulatory copy is handled faithfully, preserving the meaning of conformity and chemical-resistance statements exactly.
