Transcreators & Multilingual Copywriters

Freelance transcreators and copywriters for multilingual marketing content. All languages considered. No closing date.

Introduction

Most people who say they can transcreate, can't.

We are accepting applications from freelance transcreators and multilingual copywriters across all language pairs. These are two distinct roles. Transcreators take English source copy and recreate it in their target language with the same persuasive force, tone and intent. Copywriters may not translate at all. They write original marketing copy in their mother tongue, working from a brief or reference material rather than a source text. Both roles require one thing above all: the ability to write compelling commercial copy.

Transcreators

Transcreation is not translation with a bit of flair. It is the skill of dismantling a piece of marketing copy and rebuilding it in another language so it works just as hard. That means understanding the strategy behind the source text, not just the words. It means making choices a translator would never be asked to make: changing metaphors, restructuring arguments, rewriting headlines from scratch when the original simply doesn't land in your language.

If your experience is primarily in translation and you are looking to move into transcreation, this is probably not the right role. We need people who are already doing this work and doing it well.

Copywriters

You may not be a translator. That's fine. What you must be is an excellent writer of marketing copy in your mother tongue, with a strong command of English so you can work from English-language briefs, reference materials and brand guidelines. You will write original copy, not translate existing text. The work will span campaigns, brand messaging, digital content and more, across a range of sectors.

Requirements

For both roles: a portfolio that demonstrates real commercial copywriting ability. We want to see work that was written to persuade, not work that was translated accurately. Strong command of English. Native-level fluency in your target language. Experience working with brand guidelines and creative briefs.

Qualifications

Relevant professional experience is more important than formal qualifications for these roles. A background in advertising, marketing, journalism or communications is typical. Translation qualifications are welcome for transcreators but not required for copywriters.

How to apply

Use the application form to get in touch. Please state clearly whether you are applying as a transcreator, a copywriter or both. Include your language(s), availability and your rate. Please attach your CV and two or three relevant samples of commercial copy you have written or transcreated.

We keep all applications on file and will be in touch when a suitable project arises. Please note that we are unable to respond to every application individually.
